 "A Folio "

A Folio is an ongoing body of work that draws on visual references from British Pop Art, underground comics, and private erotic archives. The series explores fantasy, repression, and desire, using familiar cultural imagery to examine the tension between public respectability and private behaviour.

Referencing popular television, graphic storytelling, and mid-twentieth-century visual culture, the drawings suggest imagined narratives that sit just outside accepted norms.

By invoking recognisable figures and archetypes, the work plays with collective memory while subverting its polite surface.

Rooted in photographs and the artist’s own recollections, A Folio examines the relationship between pleasure, power, and the body.

The work considers how desire is shaped, concealed, and repeated, particularly within cultures that outwardly reject what they privately consume.

Through humour, exaggeration, and discomfort, the works explore the tension between public morality and private behaviour, using humour and discomfort as critical tools exposing the contradictions embedded in social morality.

Positioned between satire and critique, A Folio treats erotic imagery as a cultural language—one that reveals as much about repression and control as it does about fantasy and release.
