Abstract
"Unity"
Unity is a series of abstract expressionist action paintings in acrylic on canvas.
Working with a single colour palette divided into tonal variations, each composition explores difference and cohesion through movement, layering, and repetition.
The series considers relationships between race, gender, and belief, using abstraction to address the persistence of prejudice and division within contemporary society.
By limiting each work to a shared palette, the paintings emphasise common origin and material continuity, suggesting that perceived difference emerges from variation rather than separation.
Unity reflects on the idea that all human life shares the same fundamental biological and material basis. Despite this shared origin, social and cultural systems continue to enforce boundaries that obscure connection.
Through gesture and colour, the work proposes abstraction as a space where difference can coexist without hierarchy.
The paintings aim to communicate a sense of shared beginning and ongoing interrelation, foregrounding commonality while acknowledging the complexity of lived difference.
